Samba Schools are, without a doubt, a social phenomenon with more than a hundred years of history.
The schools were mostly created in the favelas of Rio de Janeiro. Their songs and costumes were a form of protest, always fun. Over the years, they became companies in the large industry of Rio's Carnival and much of that essence had been lost. But after several coups and crises, I would say that the samba schools were reborn... and, especially in the last two years, they have rediscovered their true calling: to tell the truth of their people through the samba school parade!
Today, samba schools have assumed that they are organic intellectuals of the class. A true spokesperson for the people!! After all, the social function of the samba school is to educate and politicize its people.
Nowadays, more than ever, schools are preparing epic, apotheotic and historic parades in every sense of the word!
Visiting a samba school is the opportunity to learn about and experience a little of the entire spectacle that is being prepared for the Rio de Janeiro Carnival.
Watching the samba school parade is like being able to applaud a great cultural spectacle up close!
